“It was 235 years ago today that the United States of America declared its independence and our republic was born. Please join me today in celebrating yet another birthday of the greatest country on earth.
“As you partake in your favorite traditional Independence Day festivities, I hope you take a moment to recognize why we celebrate this day each year. Freedom is a value too often taken for granted, yet it is the very principle that makes it such a privilege to call the United States home. I would like to thank all of the servicemen and women at home and abroad who risk their lives for our freedom. Please remember to say a prayer today for these brave men and women and their families.
“I also urge you, amid your barbecues, picnics and family gatherings, to celebrate responsibly this year. Arizona has already faced some of the largest wildfires in its history this summer, and wildland firefighters from across the state and nation are working together to contain them. Please be cognizant of this as you obey all local and state fire restrictions and help us ensure that Arizona gets through this holiday weekend safely.
“Have fun, be safe and wave your flags proudly in commemoration of our nation’s independence. Happy Birthday, America!”
