Coconino Online Probation Education (COPE) is seeking volunteer mentors for its virtual mentoring program. Mentees in the program are adults currently on Coconino County and/or Navajo Nation adult probation. COPE mentors help identify and support internal motivation for change, assist with developing problem-solving skills and act as a positive link to the community.
As a partnership between Coconino County Adult Probation Department and Sunnyside Neighborhood Association, COPE is an innovative mentoring program that provides virtual mentoring to persons who are on probation in Flagstaff, Page, Tuba City and Williams. All mentees are referred to COPE by probation officers. In addition to mentor matching and mentor training, other services provided by COPE to clients include online Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) and other online cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) classes. COPE offers technology for the probation client to use at the above four locations.
Mentor Qualifications:
- Do you have two hours a week and reliable Internet access?
- Have experience or knowledge of probation or parole?
- Are you willing to commit to one year with a mentee?
- Do you want to help restore families and communities and welcome back and support persons with a past offense?
No counseling experience necessary, training is provided to qualified volunteers.
