The Great Pinecone Drop is scheduled to take center stage for three free lowerings on Sunday, Dec. 31 – at noon, 10 p.m. and midnight.
“This is our favorite time of year,” said Weatherford Hotel co-owner Henry Taylor, who along with his wife, Sam (Pamela) Green, have lovingly restored the three-story hotel back to its turn-of-the-century, early 1900s grandeur. “We truly feel that this beautiful building is here for all of us to enjoy and share. Through 125 years, many, many people have celebrated important moments in their lives here. This building has helped shape the people, the town and the West by hosting a great variety of guests who left their mark on history, from gunslingers to artists, and scientists to politicians.”
The Great Pinecone Drop is scheduled to take center stage for three free lowerings on Sunday, Dec. 31 – at noon, 10 p.m. and midnight. The City of Flagstaff will be closing downtown area streets all day, as the three events will include sing-alongs with local DJ Dougie Fresh and countdowns to the New Year at the intersection of Aspen Ave. and Leroux St. The evening celebrations will be punctuated by a flurry of fireworks, courtesy of the city.
“We are so honored that Arizona residents and visitors have made the Great Pinecone Drop part of their New Year’s Eve family traditions,” said Green. “We began this event on Dec. 31, 1999, to honor the Weatherford’s first century. It opened as a hotel on Jan. 1, 1900. It is absolutely humbling to see how much the Great Pinecone has evolved and how many lives it touches.”
The VIP Golden Ticket Event is the Weatherford Hotel’s premier New Year’s Eve party, served with butler-passed hors d’oeuvres, a prime rib station with house-made rolls, and dessert. The party includes live music, a midnight champagne toast in the elegant Zane Grey Ballroom and access to the restored wrap-around balconies, which provide a front-row view of the evening’s program and Great Pinecone Drop. Reservations are required for the VIP Golden Ticket Event. Tickets are $150 for this 21+ only event and may be purchased at https://weatherfordhotel.com/events/2023-vip-golden-ticket-new-years-eve-in-zane-grey-21-event-392/.
Golden Ticket holders will have access to entertainment throughout the building, including Big Chad and the Southern Gentlemen in the Gopher Hole.
