How Much Storage Space Do You Need?

Spring is upon us and it’s time to open the garage door, clean up, sweep out and finally park that car inside. Or, maybe you’ve discovered you need just a little more space in the apartment. Storage units tend be scarce in the summer because many NAU students store their dorm belongings and go home in May. So, now is the time to get going on your spring clean-up and determine how much more storage space you need. Your local storage facility can offer solutions. Here’s a guide to help:

• The 5’ x 5’ unit is the size of a small walk-in closet. It’s often 8’ tall, so ask about the height and find out what floor it is located on.
• The 5’ x 10’ unit will fit twice as much stuff and is like a deep closet.
• Often the 10’x10’ unit will serve the needs of overflow from the home. It’s basically the size of a small bedroom.
• The 10’x 20’ unit is about the size of a one-car garage. These units often will have an outside access but its best to ask.
• Some facilities will have much larger units such as 10’ x 30’ and up to 15’ x 50’ but they may be hard to come by.

Help is on the way. Corporate facilities and local operators alike are building right now. Our local Flagstaff market will see more storage units than ever before come online this summer, with hundreds of thousands of square feet currently permitted and under construction. Some facilities are offering indoor space for RV and boat storage as well.
