For the last four years, Nackard Pepsi has worked with the historic Orpheum Theater in downtown Flagstaff to
offer a free summer movie series to kids and their parents. This year, with theaters closed and safety at the forefront of
everyone’s minds, Nackard Pepsi’s usual programming looks very different.
“Nackard Pepsi has been a valued partner of The Orpheum for many years and continues to support us,” said Orpheum General
Manager Susan Walter. “We knew it was necessary to put safety first and not bring families into the venue this summer, but we
wanted to find a way to pivot our programming to still bring quality content to children and their families, especially when they
are missing that connection to their community.”
The camp, which begins next Monday July 6 will stream every Monday at 6:30pm from The Orpheum Theater’s YouTube channel
and features seven local organizations including Little Music Makers of Flagstaff, Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA),
Momentum Aerial, Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival, Lowell Observatory, Willow Bend Environmental Education Center,
and The Arboretum of Flagstaff. With content for all ages, the camp will take viewers on virtual tours of The Force is With Our
People exhibit at MNA, the mushroom garden of The Arboretum, and the night sky through a telescope at Lowell Observatory.
Kids will learn how to sing traditional African songs, write a haiku, juggle, and even build their own at-home, worm composting
bin.
“I have been working and meeting with many local organizations and nonprofits in town, and the overwhelming message was
that they were all looking for a way to connect with the community,” said Walter. “This just seemed like a perfect opportunity to
highlight what Flagstaff has to offer and give families something to do together while they’re stuck at home.”
