Lumberjack Football and Basketball Have New Radio Home
The Northern Arizona Athletics Department and Great Circle Media have reached an agreement for Hits 106.1 FM (KFSZ) in Flagstaff to serve as the new flagship station for Lumberjack sports. In addition, Fun Oldies 100.9 FM and 1450 AM (KNOT) in Prescott will be added to Lumberjack Radio Network to better serve Yavapai County. The new partnership agreement is for three years.
“We are very excited about the partnership with Great Circle Media,” said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Lisa Campos. “Radio coverage through The Hits and Fun Oldies allow us to continue expanding our brand across Northern Arizona while providing fans an opportunity to enjoy listening to NAU football and basketball.”
Beginning this season, Hits 106.1 FM (KFSZ) and Fun Oldies 100.9 and 1450 AM (KNOT) will carry all NAU football and men’s basketball game broadcasts, select women’s basketball game broadcasts and a brand new weekly coaches’ call-in show every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m.
“Great Circle Media is extremely honored to bring Lumberjack Athletics to our cluster of stations in Northern Arizona,” said Steve Hoshor, general manager of Great Circle Media. “This partnership is a natural for our group. Great Circle Media and NAU are dedicated to the communities we serve. I couldn’t be more excited to be the broadcast partner. We look forward to many years of success with NAU Athletics.”
The NAU Coaches’ show kicked off the broadcast partnership on Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 6-7 p.m. The first game day broadcast was on Aug. 30 when NAU visited San Diego State in the 2014 football season opener.
“This is just another great addition for NAU Athletics,” said head football coach Jerome Souers. “We have a lot of alumni across the country that want to support our student-athletes. This is a great avenue for them to hear our teams compete, but to also hear from our staff and players. I’m really excited about it and I’m sure the Lumberjack fans are as well.”
As part of the agreement, Great Circle Media will be heavily involved in NAU Athletics promotions throughout Northern Arizona, including remote broadcasts, in-game promotions, fan experience initiatives and ticket giveaways to Lumberjack football and basketball games.
“We are so excited about our new radio partnership and the expanded coverage they will give us,” said head men’s basketball coach Jack Murphy. “Now Lumberjack games will be heard up and down I-17 and in two vital areas of Northern Arizona – our backyard of Flagstaff and the growing Prescott area. I couldn’t be more proud to be Lumberjack than I am today!”
