Coconino County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Mandy Metzger was selected to serve on the citizen-based Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona Resource Advisory Council (RAC) to provide input on public land issues.
“I have been involved with public land and natural resource management issues for many years,” District 4 Supervisor Metzger said. “I feel privileged to now join others on the Bureau’s Resource Advisory Council to engage in a large-scale cooperative process. I thank Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell for this significant opportunity and look forward to full participation on behalf of Coconino County and our western watersheds.”
The Arizona RAC is composed of citizens who are chosen for their expertise in natural resource issues to help the BLM carry out its nationwide stewardship of 245 million acres. The BLM has established 28 RACs across the West, where most BLM-managed land is located.
“Our Resource Advisory Councils exemplify the BLM’s collaborative approach to public land management,” said BLM Director Neil Kornze. “I want to welcome our newly appointed RAC members and thank them for their commitment to public service.”
Each RAC consists of 10 to 15 members who represent stakeholder interests in public land management, such as conservationists, outdoor recreationists, ranchers, industry officials, tribal leaders, state and local government officers, academics and others. The BLM is responsible for managing various uses of public land – such as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development and energy production. FBN
