Officials Declaring Monsoon Awareness Week

Even though Arizona’s weather is still dry and springlike, state officials want Arizonans to prepare for the upcoming severe afternoon thunderstorms which can produce dangerous lightening, high winds and flash flooding.
A proclamation by Gov. Jan Brewer designates June 10 to 15 as “monsoon awareness week.”
The Arizona Division of Emergency Management is suggesting residents identify a meeting place, account for members’ special
needs and designate an out-of-town contact.
Authorities also recommend that families and individuals prepare emergency kits that include first aid supplies, food, water and a
radio, along with a “go kit” of important documents, cash and phone charger.
