The girl was four years old. She had been riding in the back of a pickup truck when a bale of hay flew out. The wire holding the hay together caught one of the girl’s hands and ripped through four fingers. Cleft lip and cleft palate are openings or splits in the upper lip, the roof of the mouth (palate) or both.
