It’s heartbreaking that a child in our community can go to sleep at night, or in some cases, several nights, without a nutritious meal. As leaders, we need to do everything we can to make sure our children get the food they need to grow up healthy and strong. I’m proud that we have an active community dedicated to providing resources to children in need. At-risk children have access to breakfast and lunch every day during school. What happens to these children during the hot summer months … [Read more...] about Feeding Flagstaff’s Hungry Children

Understanding the Property Tax Process
The Coconino County Treasurer’s Office has now printed and mailed out tax bills for 2017. While some of us might grudgingly pay taxes, most of us probably understand that taxes are the price of living in our society. What might be a surprise to you is to know how much work, time and expertise went into … [Read more...] about Understanding the Property Tax Process
Kicking Off the United Way Campaign: United We Win!
This month, Coconino County kicked off its annual United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA) Fundraising Campaign for our employees. Ensuring Financial Stability, Maintaining Services for Coconino County
The Arizona State Legislature convened on Jan. 9, which began the 2017 Legislative Session. At the top of the legislature’s and governor’s agenda will be crafting a budget that meets the needs of the state’s 6.8 million residents. Coconino County has been there at the session since day one, advocating and respectfully asking the lawmakers not to balance the books on the backs of county taxpayers. We have good reason to be concerned. After the recession began in late 2008, Arizona legislators … [Read more...] about Ensuring Financial Stability, Maintaining Services for Coconino County
