State of Emergency Declaration Bring Cash to County

Governor Jan Brewer today signed a Declaration of Emergency in support of Coconino County response, recovery and mitigation efforts to protect property and infrastructure in the Schultz Flood area.   The declaration was signed in response to a heavy monsoon rainstorm that dropped more than 1 inch of rain within 15 minutes in the Timberline, Hutchison Acres and Wupatki Trails neighborhoods on September 13, 2011, causing significant street flooding and damage. Volunteers Needed at Schultz Fire Burn Area

County Closing Intersections in Schultz Flood Area

Due to heavy flooding in the Schultz Flood area, Coconino County has closed two road intersections in the Timberline neighborhood.  While the majority of roads in the Timberline neighborhood remain open and passable, Valley Drive and Crestview Driveintersections at Campbell Avenue will be closed to allow for crews to excavate and construct box culverts in the area. Public Encouraged to Help Schultz Flooding Victims

The Civic Service Institute (CSI) at Northern Arizona University, in partnership with the United Way of Northern Arizona, is sponsoring a service project in the Schultz Flood Area on June 25, 2011. Volunteers are needed to fill and place sandbags or paint Jersey barriers; two shifts are available, 9a—noon and/or 1p—4p. Schultz Fire Flood Area Study Released

Coconino County recently received the results of an in-depth Hydraulics Study of the Schultz Fire/Flood area.  The Hydraulics Study was conducted to understand the expected routes, depth and velocity of flood water under various storm events.  The study reveals over 300 homes are at high hazard risk due to deep water and/or high velocity of water.  The homes at high risk extend near the forest service boundary above the Timberline area, through to the Doney Park area.
