Arizona's Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords announced today that she is retiring from Congress so she can continue her rehabilitation work. Gifford was shot in the head a little more than a year ago during her public appearance with constituents in Tucson. Giffords is expected to turn in her resignation letter this coming week. U.S. Representative Paul Gosar is announcing he will seek reelection in a district other than his home base of Flagstaff. Arizona's districts have been re-drawn, putting the GOP stronghold of Yavapai County in District Four and creating a more competitive Congressional District One. Representative Gabrielle Giffords made a surprise visit to the U.S. House of Representatives today, her first time in the capitol since she was shot earlier this year in Tucson. She came to cast her vote in favor of the debt-ceiling compromise. Representative Giffords, who was able to walk on her own accord, received a standing ovation from her peers. Vigil Planned for AZ Rep. Gabrielle Giffords
A Vigil for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will be held at 6:00 tonight at the State Capitol. A similar vigil, also at 6:00 p.m. is planned at Flagstaff City Hall. Giffords was shot this morning while meeting with constituents outside a Safeway in north Tucson.
